Lower jaw surgery (BSSO — bilateral sagittal split osteotomy) repositions the lower jaw (mandible) to correct the bite and profile. A recessed jaw is advanced; an over-projected lower jaw (underbite) is set back. It is fixed with plates and screws through an incision inside the mouth.
