Nipple & Areola Procedures

Nipple Reduction · Inverted Nipple · Areola
by dr. Enrina Diah, Sp.BP-RE, KKF & dr. Grace Boaz, Sp.BP-RE

Nipple & areola procedures improve the shape, size, and projection of the nipple and areola. They include reducing prominent nipples (nipple reduction using the MONAS Technique), correcting an inverted nipple so it can project, and refining the areola. All are short procedures with minimal downtime.

THREE PROCEDURES

Three Nipple & Areola Refinements

This page covers three procedures that can be performed separately or together.
Nipple Reduction
Reduces the length or width of prominent nipples — using the MONAS Technique to preserve sensitivity.
Inverted-Nipple Correction
Releases the tissue/ducts tethering the nipple inward so it can project.
Areola Refinement
Improves the shape or size of the areola.
NOTE

All three procedures are done through small, discreet incisions. Nipple reduction uses the MONAS Technique which aims to preserve nipple sensitivity and the milk ducts. At Ultimo Clinic, these procedures can be performed under sedation for comfort — especially for patients anxious about pain.

AT A GLANCE

What to Expect

Technique
Nipple adjustment (reduction with the MONAS Technique or inverted correction) and/or areola refinement, through small incisions.
Anesthesia
Sedation — for comfort, especially for patients anxious about pain.
Hospital stay
Day-surgery procedure — no overnight stay; home the same day.
Recovery
Minimal. You can return to office work the next day, but avoid heavy activity or direct pressure on the chest area for 1–2 weeks.
Result
A more proportionate nipple and areola and, for inverted correction, a projecting nipple; long-lasting.
FREQUENTLY ASKED

Frequently Asked Questions

What causes inverted nipples?

Inverted nipples are usually caused by shorter ducts or connective tissue pulling the nipple inward. Correction releases that tethering.

It is done under sedation, so you are comfortable during the procedure; any discomfort afterward is generally mild.
It depends on the technique and type of procedure performed. In nipple reduction using the MONAS Technique, the milk ducts are carefully preserved. Please discuss any pregnancy or breastfeeding plans during your consultation.
