Lower jaw surgery (BSSO — bilateral sagittal split osteotomy) repositions the lower jaw (mandible) to correct the bite and profile. A recessed jaw is advanced; an over-projected lower jaw (underbite) is set back. It is fixed with plates and screws through an incision inside the mouth.

Yes. For an underbite caused by an over-projected lower jaw, BSSO can set the jaw back to an aligned position; for a recessed jaw, it advances it.
A chin augmentation adds projection to a well-positioned chin, whereas BSSO repositions the whole lower jaw when the bite and jaw position are the issue.
